In the box, you’ll find the Apple AirPods charger and a small quick start guide that explains everything about it. There’s not much to read about this charger, as everything is pretty straightforward about how it works. It simply plugs into the 12V socket in your car, then you insert each AirPod into the molded charging ports on top of the charger.
Once you insert the AirPods, the status indicator starts flashing red to let you know they’ve started charging. It takes about 15-20 minutes to charge the AirPods, then the indicator light turns green when they’re fully charged. Personally, I wish there were separate indicators on the right and left. There’s a second LED light in the middle, but it indicates that the charger has started charging.

The AirPod charging ports are magnetic, so just like with the original case, once you insert them, the earbuds are secured and you won’t find them coming loose or flying out. The magnet strength isn’t as strong as the original case, but it’s enough to hold them in place.
Below the AirPod sockets, there are two USB ports at 5V and 2.4A. They don’t support fast charging technology or provide power delivery, but at 12W each, they’re sufficient to charge a dash cam or an iPhone or Android device connected to them.
Like me, you might wonder: what’s the point of this product when you can simply use the charging case? It’s definitely a niche product, but if you’re watching this video, you might be one of the few looking for a product like this. Since fully charged AirPods last more than 24 hours with the charging case, I don’t see the benefit of this charger unless you use AirPods regularly, so you need easy access to them, and you find yourself in the car a lot – like a taxi driver or private driver.

Unfortunately, as Apple develops AirPods, their shape changes, making this charger outdated very quickly. Right now, Apple still sells the cheaper second-generation AirPods, but all that could change soon. The internal AirPod sockets are designed to fit the first and second generation AirPods, so they won’t accept the smaller Apple AirPods Pro. And with rumors that Apple might update AirPods in early 2021, you might find this product becomes outdated faster than you expect. So keep this in mind if you want to buy this charger, as you might replace your current AirPods.
Most car AirPod chargers charge AirPods by connecting their case to the car charger, so this AirPod charger is a unique product that not only provides a home for AirPods in the car but also charges them, while also being able to charge two other devices through the USB ports.
